Authorities investigate hit and run in Manitowoc County

Posted

A motorcyclist has serious injuries following a hit and run crash involving a pick-up truck, according to the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies first got a call about the crash at around 1:29 p.m. at the intersection of County Road M and County Road XX in Meeme.

The Sheriff's Office says a 58-year-old Kiel man was riding a Harley southbound on County Road M, while a 30-year-old man, also from Kiel, was driving a Ford F350 pick-up northbound on the same road. The Sheriff's Office says the truck turned in front of the motorcycle while turning westbound on County Road XX. The motorcycle crashed into the truck, seriously injuring the motorcycle operator.

The motorcycle operator was taken to the hospital. The Sheriff's Office says he was not wearing a helmet.

The Sheriff's Office says the truck driver fled the scene, but deputies caught up to him about 1.5 miles west of the crash. He was arrested on charges of felony hit and run, and was cited for failure to yield right-of-way while making a left turn and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
