25 years after his tragic death in Door County, a teen's life is honored through scholarships given out in his memory.
Brian LaViolette was just 15 when he died in a swimming accident. However, his legacy lives on through the Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation, started by his family.
On Tuesday, the foundation is hosting a 25th Anniversary event, which includes a silent and live auction, at Lambeau Field. The event will raise money for scholarships given to students each year.
Brian was an excellent student and a caring friend, son and brother, his sister said.
"If we're awarding scholarships and helping people that are going into fields that are going to make the community a better place, then it can only have a ripple effect and help many more people than just that one person," said Kim LaViolette, Brian's sister and the foundation's Executive Director.
Salvatore "Sal" Augustine Giunta, an Army vet and Medal of Honor recipient, will serve as the night's special guest speaker.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m.
The Brian LaViolette Scholarship Foundation has given nearly 8,000 scholarships to students around the world.
