An attempted bank robbery and strong-armed robbery were reported in Appleton Monday, according to Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton Police Department.  A suspect is in custody.

At 1:04 p.m. Monday, Appleton Police Department officers responded to the area of North Oneida Street and East Harris Street for a strong-arm robbery. Based on the suspect description, an officer located and detained a subject. Several minutes later, a call was received of an individual attempting to rob US Bank, 200 N. Durkee St. and it was quickly determined the suspect was already in custody.

The ongoing investigation indicates a woman entered the US Bank office on N. Durkee Street, announcing her intentions to rob the bank. Without receiving money, she fled on foot.

The same woman went to the area of North Oneida and East Harris streets. She physically struggled with a 64-year-old woman, stealing her purse. While struggling for her purse, the victim incurred a non-life threatening, lower body injury. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The woman fled from the scene of the strong-armed robbery and attempted to hide some of her clothing in a nearby building. Having removed some of her outer clothing, she was still in the area when the officer saw her.

The Appleton Police Department has a 44 year-old Appleton woman in custody for the two incidents. She is confined at the Outagamie County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and strong-armed robbery. Additional charges are anticipated.
