As heavy snow piles up across northeast Wisconsin, fire crews want to remind you to clear the areas around exterior vents and pipes from snow.
Furnace vents can become clogged with snow, trapping dangerous gases like carbon monoxide in your home.
Firefighters with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department ask that you clear fire hydrants from snow.
Lieutenant Cody Johnson said there are hundreds of hydrants across the Green Bay metro area, and the department couldn't possibly clear all of them.
They're hopeful homeowners can make sure the life-saving devices are cleared.
"If we have to dig all the way through that in order to hook that hydrant- that takes precious time, and in an incident, time is of the most importance," Johnson said.
The department is also reminding homeowners to clear exterior pipes that could freeze and burst.
They said to make sure snow is moved away from the pipes, and to clear them out to prevent clogging.
