Giving back on Giving Tuesday

Posted

Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have ended, the act of giving is taking over.

Giving Tuesday urges people to volunteer or make donations to local, national, and international charities.

It launched in 2012.

Last year the hashtag #GivingTuesday was mentioned more than 750,000 times on Twitter.

The Appleton International Airport is one of many organizations taking part in Giving Tuesday.

The Salvation Army is teaming up with The Appleton International Airport to kick-off the Let’s Can Hunger food drive.

Food will go to needy families this holiday season.

The drive runs through December 16th.

You can also text ATW to 41444 to give a $10.00 donation. The donation will also enter you into a drawing for a $500.00 United Airlines gift certificate.

HSHS St. Vincent hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay are also accepting donations to help pay for patients who have no insurance, or who are underinsured.

The Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay, and The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center are also accepting other donations.

Waverly Beach in Menasha is holding Volunteer-fest for those looking for somewhere to volunteer. Representatives from more than 30 non-profit organizations will be on hand to meet with those interested. It runs from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

GivingTuesday.org has a list of more than 60 organizations to give to in Wisconsin.

The Better Business Bureau has some tips to keep donated money out of the wrong hands:

-Before you give, know the exact name of the charity to avoid a case of mistaken identity
-Avoid on the spot donations. Responsible organizations will welcome your gift at anytime.
-Research the charity before giving
-Avoid charities that don’t disclose
