An Appleton woman was sentenced Friday morning to eight years confinement, four years extended supervision and $5,000 restitution for the stabbing death of her husband, 35-year-old Chad Hafeman.
In court the Outagamie County district attorney asked for 20 years behind bars, but Hafeman's defense attorney asked for 10 years in prison.
In the end the judge decided on a lighter sentence.
"I will be honest the victim's family is frustrated with the sentence. They were hoping for something more significant than the eight years of initial confinement," explained Outagamie County district attorney, Carrie Schneider.
"They're not happy about what happened. They're not happy about the facts. They're not happy she's going to prison, but they know at least at this point she'll be able to get out before her kids are all out of high school," said Hafeman's defense attorney, Kevin Musolf.
In May 2016, Chad Hafeman died at the hospital from stab wounds after police were called to the Hafeman's duplex along the 900 block of Durkee Street and discovered him inside, covered in blood.
Hafeman's children were all considered witnesses to the stabbing death of their father.
Tina Hafeman filed a no contest plea for the charge of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide in December.
