On November 8 at approximately 10:27 a.m. the Appleton Fire Department was dispatched to 1201 Bartell Court for a reported structure fire.

A press release from the Appleton Fire Department states that an adult female was awakened from her sleep by her coughing and fidgeting 18 month-old daughter and alerted to a fire in their Bartell Court townhouse.

The female then broke out a window in the second floor bedroom they were in and began screaming for help.

A neighbor who heard her screams rushed over and the woman was able to drop her child out of the window to the neighbor before jumping out of the window herself.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported light smoke showing from a second floor window.

Firefighters entered the townhouse and quickly extinguished the fire.

The Appleton Fire Department says the fire originated in the kitchen.

Reports say another adult female had been in the townhouse cooking prior to the fire, but had left to go to the store.

There is no damage estimate at this time.

Five occupants of townhouse #19 have been displaced because of the fire. The displaced occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Three people were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
