A 43-year-old Appleton man is dead and a woman injured after a shooting early Saturday morning. Police responded to a home on Foster Court around 2:45 a.m. where they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he later died and police are now searching for suspects that were likely involved.
Multiple neighbors of the man killed say, it wasn't unusual to hear arguments coming from inside the home in where the crime occurred. But some neighbors, who wouldn't go on camera, say when they heard a woman cry out he's got a gun, which was something that shocked them.
Investigators are combing through the crime scene today in the front yard of a home, Appleton Police have visited in the past.
"There's a lot of traffic there, it's not really loud but they've had problems there. Occasionally there has been little dust ups but that happens," says Vicki Strand a neighbor just down the block from where a man was killed.
For 40 years Strand has lived here. She says the neighborhood is safe, usually quite, and full of activity from kids. But this morning the block was filled with strangers and police, all checking out the crime scene.
"I came outside and I was greeted by this," says Strand.
Police say this morning they were called here for a disturbance. Authorities didn’t elaborate what exactly that call entailed, but they came with the fire department and Red Cross.
"It’s near Foster Elementary School on the south side of Appleton," explains Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton Police department.
When they arrived they discovered a man had been shot and a woman related to him was injured in a non-life threatening manner.
"She is not a suspect in the incident. She is a victim of this disturbance," adds Sgt. Lund.
At least two suspects are believed to have left this home before police arrived. Just a couple of blocks away next to a Marathon gas station off of Oneida Street a vehicle of interest was sectioned off with police tape and is now being seized.
"We've obtained warrants to take that vehicle into our custody as evidence," says Sgt. Lund.
No descriptions of the suspects are available yet but authorities are saying this was likely an isolated incident and shouldn't be a concern for neighbors and their safety. But for those who live here, they'll have a hard time forgetting about what happened.
