A series of thefts from garages and unlocked vehicles on the south side of Appleton is being investigated by police, who say a person of interest is in custody.
Monday morning, the Appleton Police Department began receiving reports of property being stolen from unlocked vehicles and unsecured garages. Due to footprints in the overnight snow, officers tracked an involved individual to a nearby apartment complex. A 43-year-old Appleton resident has been taken into custody for his involvement in at least one of the incidents.
Investigating officers have determined at least 12 incidents occurred overnight on Appleton's south side in an area to the east of South Telulah Avenue.
Investigating officers have recovered property from the residence occupied by the person of interest. They believe it's possible additional vehicles and garages were entered during the theft spree.
Appleton Police Department asks people affected by the thefts to call 920-832-5500 to report any previously unreported theft, vehicle entry or unauthorized entry into a garage or residence.
