APPLETON, Wis—Appleton police have arrested three people linked to a methadone overdose death.

In October of 2016, the department was investigating the death of a 25-year-old man found at his home in the 2900 block of Schaefer Circle.

Evidence of drug use was found at the scene.

An autopsy and toxicology showed methadone was a significant factor in the death.

As investigators continued the case, they found evidence showing the victim had purchased methadone from an acquaintance the night before his death.

On Thursday investigators took those responsible for providing the methadone used by the victim into custody.

A Menasha mother and daughter are being held at the Calumet County Jail. Charges of 1st degree reckless homicide are pending for those two suspects.

An Appleton man who is also being charged in the incident is currently in the Winnebago County Jail for an unrelated issue. A charge of Party to 1st degree reckless homicide is pending for the Appleton man.

NBC26 is choosing not to name the suspects until they have been formally charged.
