Appleton Police are now joining eight other Fox Valley departments in the YMCA's 'buddy bag program.'
The Appleton Police Department is now equipping all their squad cars with the buddy bags.
They're designed to comfort young children who witness or are involved in traumatic incidents.
"A lot of times unfortunately we encounter youth that are maybe have been taught by parents or people around them to be afraid of the police," Sgt. David Lund said. "These kind of things really in a lot of cases help us break down that barrier of communication just by extending that gift and giving them something."
The buddy bags include things like a small stuffed animal, a toy, or coloring books.
