Appleton North High School students holding Hurricane Irma donation drive

Posted

Some Hurricane Irma victims are getting a helping hand from a group of Appleton North High School students.

Molly Brinkhoff spent eight years living in Naples, Florida. She is part of the Willems Student Marketing Team. It's an internship style program between the Appleton Area School District and Willems Marketing that allows seniors to earn college credit while learning about the business.

Brinkhoff and her classmates are using the skills they've learned to organize an emergency donation drive to help those struggling with basic necessities as they begin to recover from the hurricane.

"It means the world to me that I can help them out in some way. They're friends that are just like family to me, so seeing them struggle and go through this, it's hard. So just being able to give them a little bit of a start to normalcy is great," she said.

The students are asking for donations of water, non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, toiletry items, diapers, bug spray, flash lights, solar phone chargers, bedding, coolers, first aid kits, batteries, etc.

You can drop off your donations this weekend at Pathways Church at 311 W. Evergreen Drive in Appleton. Hours are Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 8:30am-6pm.

Truck Country is volunteering to drive the semi-trailer stuffed with supplies down to Florida to help with the recovery efforts.
