Appleton neighbors are learning how to confront sex trafficking in their city.
Wednesday night's event at the Appleton library was sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
It highlighted efforts made in the area since 2014 to identify victims of sex trafficking, and prevent it.
Speakers at the event say many in the Fox Valley are still unaware that sex trafficking is as common as it is.
"And take that extra step to know a kid who might be vulnerable," says Jonathan Cloud, of the Outagamie Co. Sex Trafficking Partnership. "If they're hanging around a lot, if they're by themselves a lot, if they seem a little bit forlorn, or despondent--what traffickers--or we call them also pimps--what they do is target those vulnerabilities."
The program is part of an ongoing report of sex trafficking prevention efforts in Outagamie County.
