A young man from Appleton fighting two different forms of cancer for more than six years got the chance Tuesday to meet the man who saved his life.

Jordan Vanstrom, 18, needed bone marrow to continue his battle.

That's where Marco Protkorb, 43, comes in...all the way from Germany. Vanstrom received a life-saving bone marrow transplant from Protkorb.

He traveled from Germany to the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton to meet Vanstrom Tuesday.

He said it was a no-brainer to donate his bone marrow because his daughter had similar tests done to check for possible cancer.

Vandstrom said finding a match from overseas was surreal.

"I have family that's from Germany so it's somewhat logical but it's crazy that of all the people that they found a match in Germany," Vanstrom said.

Because of the procedure, Vandstrom said he isn't able to wrestle anymore, but is still staying active by playing golf and doing light workouts to stay in shape.
