The Appleton Police Department has arrested an individual for the October 5 hit and run to a pedestrian at the intersection of Lawe Street and College Avenue.

The Appleton Police Department and first responders responded to the intersection of Lawe Street and East College Avenue for an injured pedestrian. The injured woman, a 21 year-old Lawrence University student, told officers she was struck by a car while crossing College Avenue in the crosswalk. The striking vehicle had fled the area.

The woman sought medical attention at a local hospital and was hospitalized for several days with a significant head injury. She has since been released.

Officers reviewed traffic camera video from the intersection. It captured a vehicle striking the victim, in the crosswalk, as the vehicle made a left turn from southbound North Lawe Street to eastbound East College Avenue. The operator of the striking vehicle did not stop to check on the victim and continued eastbound on East College Avenue.

On Saturday, October 6, video of the hit and run was released to media and posted on social media. As a result, the Appleton Police Department received numerous tips. On the basis of a tip, the suspect vehicle was located and seized as evidence.

On Thursday, investigators interviewed an individual associated with the vehicle. Based on information learned throughout the investigation, the suspect was taken into custody. The 43-year-old Appleton resident is confined at the Outagamie County Jail. Investigators are requesting a charge of Hit and Run-Causing Great Bodily Harm against the man, who is scheduled to make an initial appearance today.
