A reminder from Appleton's Fire Department to be careful while cooking and lighting candles this holiday season.

They just added a second red bulb to their wreath signifying a holiday fire. This one started after someone left cooking oil unattended on a stove in an apartment. No one was hurt and damage is minimal.

This is Appleton's second fire since the Keep the Wreath Green campaign started on November 24th.

The Red Cross has some helpful tips to prevent a fire this holiday season. They say place Christmas trees, candles and decorations at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces and heat vents. Always unplug tree and holiday lights before leaving home or going to bed. Lastly, keep live trees as moist as possible by giving them plenty of water.
