The owners of a no-kill animal shelter in Appleton are facing a major problem tonight. One hundred potential pets need homes by the end of the weekend as they have been informed their lease is up. Chances Animal Rescue has to close its doors by Sunday night, but volunteers there say there is still hope as the public rallies to find them assistance.
Time is ticking for the Chances shelter after a misunderstanding over the terms of their lease. Now they have until just Monday to find a new home.
"I don't understand why we couldn't get a little longer but from what I can see part of the building is being remodeled already," says volunteer Deb Josephs.
And while the K-9's and felines don't know the news just yet. Friends and patrons of the Chances shelter have heard.
"Every little creature deserves a fair start," says Paula Carlson who is adopting a pet today.
"We're here trying to adopt a cat because Chances has to move or close based on some issues with their lease," adds Brittany Vanlinn of Appleton.
With only days to adopt out or find foster homes for over 100 pets, Chances Animal Rescue is reaching out to the public for help.
"Anything that you can do, whether it's adopting fostering or helping us find a facility for the short term or long term," adds Josephs.
In just the past year over 250 dogs have successfully been adopted out of Chances Animal Rescue. While it may look full today, that's because this no-kill shelter knows the ultimate result of having available space.
“An empty kennel means a dog somewhere is not gonna make it," says Josephs.
The shelter will be open Friday through Sunday but there is also a go fund me page to help the animals. Save Chances Animal Rescue is hoping to raise 20-thousand dollars to find a new building to help as they deal with the situation. You can find out more by checking out the links below.
