An unexpected journey to Lambeau Field

Posted

Janesville, WI

After losing his mother to cancer, his father to Alzheimer’s and having relatives experience the heartache and hardships of having a child with birth defects, one man from the Janesville area has taken it upon himself to raise money for several charities close to his heart by doing something many wouldn't expect him to be able to accomplish. NBC26 has the details of a man heading to Lambeau Field from Janesville for all of the right reasons.

It was 14 degrees Thursday morning in Janesville and one man by the name of Dennis Schulze just took off from this area for his 170 mile trek all the way to Lambeau Field in his wheelchair. Schulze says he is making the trip for a handful of reasons including raising some money for some charities that are dear to his heart. But he's also doing it to inspire others to prove that despite his disability he can accomplish much more than anyone would expect.

"It doesn't matter your disability or situation. To me if I put my mind to something I can do it. And I want to inspire other people. Instead of just sitting around, no disrespect, instead of feeling sorry for yourself challenge yourself. I mean I very easily could have just sat around and collected disability or whatever but no, I want to go out and make a difference," says Schulze.

It will take Schulze about 40 days to get to Lambeau Field. He's only traveling about a mile and a half an hour and he plans on going about five miles every single day. He’s hopeful that he will be able to inspire many more people beyond just Janesville along the way.
