Thousands of people are homeless in Tennessee after wildfires destroyed their homes, but a group in Northeast Wisconsin wants to bring some comfort to those victims in the form of quilts.
Mary Stewart, owner of The Quilted Fish shop in Algoma, came up with the idea to send quilts and pillowcases to victims after talking to a friend working at a shelter in Tennessee.
"They said they've lost absolutely everything and it's really bad, they need help," Stewart said.
Stewart just recently moved to Algoma and opened her specialty quilt shop, but with the help of the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce, she is reaching out to neighbors to come help her quilt every day through December 15th.
They are not sure how many quilts and pillowcases they will be able to send, but just hope to have them there by Christmas, she said.
She also has the help of St. Paul's Church in Algoma, which has already donated quilts to send down to victims in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Stewart is also accepting monetary donations to help victims and also help with postage. They are accepting those at The Quilted Fish or the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce.
