Aircraft makes "hard landing" in Manitowoc

Posted

The Manitowoc Police Department reports police and fire personnel were called to the Manitowoc County Airport after a small aircraft made what was described as a "hard landing" on Saturday.

When first responders arrived to the east end of runway #7, two people were lying in the grass in front of a heavily damaged single-engine aircraft.

A 44-year-old man, the pilot, and his 11-year-old daughter were treated at the scene for back and shoulder injuries. They were taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses say the plane took off and was flying when it began to rock back and forth and came back down. The landing caused damage to landing gear, the plane body and propeller and wings. The pilot says the engine stalled which forced him to make the landing.

An official from the FAA was at the airport at  the time and contacted the NTSB.

The incident is still under investigation and the runway is closed.
