2,977 flags were placed by people, which represented each victim who died on September 11th, 2001 on Sunday. There were different ways families participated in honoring and remembering, either by placing flags on the ground, and viewing the front pages of newspapers from 10 days after 9/11. The memorial will be up until September 17th.
