Schools in Door County received life saving equipment from Prevea Health on Tuesday. More than 500 emergency kits were donated to be used during active shooter situations. The kits include a tourniquet and pressure bandages to stop bleeding.
"As a long-time, trusted health care provider in Northeast Wisconsin, it is our responsibility to help keep the communities we serve healthy and safe," said Dr. Ashok Rai, President and CEO at Prevea Health. "While we hope these kits never have to be used, we are more than happy to provide them knowing they have the potential to save lives."
The kits will be placed in all occupied classrooms, administrative offices and school buses within the Gibraltar, Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay, Southern Door and Washington Island School Districts.
"Unfortunately, no community is immune to the threat of an active shooter or other hostile event," says Aaron LeClair, Deputy Director of Door County Emergency Services. "It is our job to prepare for these potential scenarios as best we can."
