AAA is estimating a record number of people to travel this year for the Fourth of July weekend. About 43 million people will take to the roads and the air as they head to their vacation destinations.
With so many people heading out of town the Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be on alert on the roads.
Construction crews will be off the roads by noon Friday and won't resume road work until Tuesday July 5.
Police are also expected to be out in construction zones looking for speeders. Despite road crews not being out working and orange barrels being pulled aside the speed limits will remain 55 miles per hour in those areas.
AAA is attributing the large number of travelers to the lowest gas prices we've seen in nearly a decade.
