The Appleton Fire Department says they were dispatched to a home on Carpenter Street this morning for reports of heavy smoke coming from a home.
Fire crews were able to get the fire under control quickly, and the kitchen was the area most damaged in the house. The department says the fire ignited on the stovetop was likely accidental.
No one was home at the time of the fire except 4 dogs who were able to escape when a good Samaritan opened a back door allowing them to get out of the house.
The fire department reminds citizens not to leave combustible material on or near cooking appliances or other heat sources.
