APPLETON, Wis—Two cats are dead after a house fire.
It happened around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the 200 block of Prospect Street.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The owner of the home discovered the fire when she came home and opened the door to smoke.
Crews found smoke in the first floor, basement, and walls.
The fire was under control within a few minutes.
The investigation found that the fire started in the basement, spread up the wall and self extinguished.
Crews did have to remove smoke from the building.
The home did sustain smoke and fire damage.
The cause is under investigation.
