CHICAGO (NBC 26) -- The news team at NBC 26 (WGBA-TV) has won two prestigious Chicago/Midwest Regional Emmy® awards.
The NBC 26 Today team won Best Morning Newscast and NBC 26 Chief Meteorologist Cameron Moreland won Outstanding Crafts Achievement for On-Camera Talent - Weather Anchor.
Moreland has spent 23 of his nearly 25 year career at NBC 26.
“To go up against three Chicago stations and win is such a great honor,” Moreland said. “So happy to know that our viewers in Northeast Wisconsin can get the same quality Weathercast that you would expect in television market No. 3 - Chicago. So happy for NBC 26.”
The NBC 26 Today team’s coverage of a snowstorm that slammed Northeast Wisconsin this year garnered the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for News Programming - Morning Newscast: Smaller Markets (51+).
“It's an honor to win this Emmy for the show we put together this winter,” said NBC 26 Today Producer Elyse Maccabee. “We all work so hard, especially during severe weather. It is very rewarding to have that hard work recognized on this level.”
During the January snowstorm that dumped several inches of snow, resulting in poor road conditions and school closings, NBC 26 had crews reporting from the hardest hit areas in the viewing area. NBC 26 Today provided reminders and tips on how to stay safe and kept viewers up to date on how commuters were faring on the major highways.
NBC 26 was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement for News Programming - Evening Newscast: Smaller Markets (51+) for launching Project: Drive Sober to address the serious issue of alcohol-related crashes in Wisconsin.
