APPLETON, Wis. - Appleton fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

They found smoke and flames coming from the windows of the 2-story home. By the time they arrived, the sole occupant had made it out of the house, along with his dog.

Fire crews had a challenge putting the fire out because of an accumulation of contents throughout the residence.

After the fire was out, crews searched for the occupant's cat, but unfortunately it did not survive the fire.

The man and his dog are now displaced, but it's unknown exactly how much damage was done. No one was hurt.

Crews don't know the cause of the fire yet, but an investigation is underway.
