MANITOWOC — According to the Manitowoc Police Department, a man was taken into custody after officers heard gunshots near a tavern early this morning.

They report officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 800 block of Washington Street around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, when they heard gunshots near a tavern in the 900 block of Washington Street.

The officers stopped a vehicle they saw leaving the scene and identified a passenger who admitted firing several shots into the air from his handgun, in an attempt to stop people from fighting.
