NEENAH, Wis. — Heading back to school can be an exciting time of year for most children, but for some it can be a stressful time going without the supplies they need to be successful.
A local company, Jewelers Mutual Group and the Kids In Need Foundation have partnered together to give back to schools in Northeast Wisconsin.
In total, 2,000 backpacks will be donated to eight schools Thursday and Friday. Students will receive supplies such as pencils, pencil pouches, notebooks, crayons, markers and more.
"Kids right here in Northeast Wisconsin are in need of school supplies," said Scott Murphy, president and CEO at Jewelers Mutual. "We knew something needed to be done in our community to help provide for these students and families, and we are honored to be a part of this positive give back."
On Thursday, employees with Jewelers Mutual employees stuffed the backpacks at its headquarters in Neenah. There was a backpack school assembly at Taft Elementary where some of the backpacks were donated and a fun celebration was held.
The schools were selected based on the percentage of the student population who take part in free or reduced lunches.
Last year, the Kids in Need Foundation served more than six million students and nearly 200,000 teachers. In the last 23 years its distributed more than one billion dollars in supplies to help change the lives of children in need.
