Cooking fire causes minor damage in Appleton

APPLETON, Wis. — The Appleton Fire Department was called to the 3100 block of E. Newberry Street around 9:30 Thursday night for reports of a kitchen fire.

Firefighters were told on the way that the fire was a cooking oil fire and had been partially extinguished.

They found smoke in the building when they arrived. They contained the smoke and confirmed that the fire had been extinguished by a resident with a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters ventilated the residence.

Smoke alarms were in the home but were not working. There were no injuries. There was minor fire damage in the kitchen and minor smoke damage in other rooms.
