“Grey’s Anatomy” fans still have a whole lotta love for McSteamy and McDreamy. So when Eric Dane shared a throwback photo on April 29 to both Instagram and Twitter of himself and former “Grey’s” co-star Patrick Dempsey during a light moment of filming the long-running ABC drama, fans went wild.
“Blurry pic of how to hang out 6 feet apart,” Dane captioned the image, which showed him standing a good distance away from Dempsey.

Knowledgeable “Grey’s” fans identified the photo from when the two actors were shooting Season 4 Episode 16, “Freedom: Part 1,” which aired in 2008. In the episode, Dr. Derek Shepherd shows Dr. Mark Sloan and Dr. Richard Webber the spot where he planned to build a house for himself and on-again, off-again love Dr. Meredith Grey.
The photo got fans reminiscing about the friendship between characters Derek and Mark, and about early seasons of the show.
“Wasn’t prepared for all these feels,” said Twitter user Alicia Gutowski, to which fellow fan Emily (Twitter user @OffSeids) replied, “Right? What’s making our hearts explode more? Missing them? Or their ongoing bromance?”

“brb, I’m actually crying,” commented @zaammnjazzy.
“I kinda like this McMemory,” said another fan.
“Grey’s Anatomy” has been on the air for 16 seasons and was renewed for an upcoming 17th season.
Both Dane (a.k.a. McSteamy) and Dempsey (a.k.a McDreamy) have since exited the show and moved on to other projects. But perhaps Dane was feeling wistful for his “Grey’s” days while cooped up during COVID-19 quarantining.
Dane has also shared some current COVID-19 sheltering-in-place images including his stash of wipes and toilet paper and the “social distancing” he was doing on his deck.
Dempsey, for his part, has a nice quarantine perk going for him. His wife, Jillian Dempsey, is a makeup artist and hairstylist, and she helps him keep his perfectly coiffed hair looking good, as you can see in the video below.

Recently, the folks at “Grey’s Anatomy” joined other TV shows in donating medical supplies used as props on the show to real-life hospitals and medical workers fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This big-hearted move is just one more reason the show will always have a special spot in our hearts.
