GREEN BAY (NBC26) — About 400 St. Norbert College freshmen volunteered across Brown County Friday morning in a tradition rooted in the institution's values.
The event marked the first full-scale return of "Into the Streets" since the pandemic.
More than 35 community partners welcomed the students for volunteer projects, including St. Vincent de Paul in Green Bay. There, students assembled fake Christmas trees for the thrift store's sales floor and organized donated shoes.
Freshman Claire Schaefer said the experience was a great way to meet her peers and help the nonprofit.
"It really builds community out, which is what St. Norbert is all about," Schaefer said.

The college says all the service day projects are grounded in the Norbertine value of caring for one's community.
Organizers hope the day inspires new students to give back back while in college and throughout their lives.
