GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) — City of Green Bay leaders say the Resch Aquatic Center is closing early for the season due to staffing shortages.

The Resch Aquatic Center's last day of operation this summer is Friday, Aug. 5.

One poolgoer from Pulaski says she is surprised the pool is shutting down earlier than usual.

"Honestly, I'm glad we came today and not next week, because we wouldn't be able to come," Tammy Hendricks said. "So yeah, just very surprised."

City recreation supervisor Ann Moeller says in general, people have been understanding of the decision.

"We're not the only entity in the area that has had trouble finding staff and maintaining staffing levels," Moeller said. "We've had a couple pool closures throughout the summer. Some of our amenities have been shut down when our staff is pretty lean. So, I think overall for people who've been attending our pools understand it."

Moeller says remaining staff from both the Resch and Joannes Aquatic Centers will be working the Joannes pool for the remainder of the summer.

Joannes' last day of operation is on Thursday, Aug. 25.
