GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A Friday morning fire caused heavy smoke damage at the Urban Cultural Arts building in Green Bay, the city’s fire department says.
Firefighters were called just before 8 a.m. to 906 E. Walnut St in Green Bay. They arrived to find smoke pouring from the roof and filling the building.
Crews quickly found the source of the fire and had it out within minutes.
No one was hurt. Damage is estimated at $80,000.
The cause is still under investigation.
In a social media post, Urban Cultural Arts Center Executive Director Latosha Greenleaf says they are still figuring out next steps as the space has been significantly impacted.
Greenleaf said a neighbor immediately stepped up to create a GoFundMe supporting the center.
"Urban Cultural Arts has never just been a building to me," said Greenleaf. "So many memories live in this space. It’s a place that was built so youth and families in our community could have somewhere safe and welcoming to create, explore, and just be themselves."
