ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — Officials are hosting a farewell ceremony and inviting the public to say their final goodbyes to the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena today.

After 60 years, the historical arena is being torn down to make room for a new expo center.

Beyond holding concerts, the venue was home to annual shows, expos, pro wrestling matches, hockey teams and UW-GB Phoenix Basketball. With so many ties to the community, it's only fair they get a chance to say farewell.

At noon, officials will hold an open house. From 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a ceremony. Following the ceremony until 6 p.m., the public will be able to bring memories home with them by taking up to two arena folding chairs. They may also purchase a four set row of area seats for $50, while supplies last.

If you are unable to make the final farewell, but would like still like a memento, a t-shirt of Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena is being sold to benefit the Friends of Brown County Veterans. The deadline to order the t-shirt online is on June 13, at midnight. Delivery is expected around the first week of July. There are no refunds or exchanges allowed.
