Wisconsin health officials say a death has been linked to this summer's outbreak of a fungal disease in northeastern Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said they are aware of a death linked to the outbreak of blastomycosis on the Little Wolf River.

No other information was available about the death or when the person was diagnosed with the fungal infection.

Over the summer, the department investigated dozens of cases of blastomycosis in people who said they visited the Little Wolf River near New London.

The disease causes pneumonia and flu-like symptoms. It comes from inhaling fungal spores and in some cases, it can be fatal.
