The Appleton–Menasha tornado was rated EF3, with estimated winds of 140 mph, making it the strongest tornado to impact the NBC 26 viewing area in nearly two decades.
The tornado touched down near the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Badger Avenue just west of downtown Appleton. It then tracked south for 12.1 miles through Menasha and out over Lake Winnebago before lifting at 12:22 p.m.
It was the strongest tornado to strike this area since an F-4 tore through the region in 1984.
