GREEN BAY -- There are plans to propose renaming the Walnut Street Bridge in honor of beloved late Packers legend, Bart Starr.
City Council President Mark Steuer confirmed Friday with NBC 26 that he plans to start the process of renaming the bridge by entering a communication during next Tuesday's city council meeting.
Steuer said citizens had called him about renaming the bridge and he thought it was a good idea.
"I think it's a well deserved honor," Steuer told NBC 26 in a phone call. "He was not only an idol for me growing up, he was a hero. I remember all the championships. Just what a class act he was. That they're having a celebration this weekend at the Packers game is very fitting. He was not only a sports hero, but he was also a gentleman."
Steuer said he already spoke to the Mayor and Packers Director of Public Affairs Aaron Popkey about the proposal.
