Miami Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton suffered a series of facial fractures and other injuries after Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers struck him with a pitch.

As reported by Joe Frisaro of MLB.com:

The Brewers were up 4-0 at the time of the incident, and the Marlins had a runner on third base.

Fiers was pitching very well up to that point. He had seven strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three walks.

Here's a video of Stanton getting hit by Fiers:

The Marlins provided the following update later in the game on their star slugger:

Fiers' next pitch hit Reed Johnson, who was pinch-hitting for Stanton. Up with an 0-2 count, a visibly upset Fiers had no intent to hit Johnson.

Still, Fiers had to be ejected from the game.

Unfortunately for Johnson, he was ruled to have swung at the pitch. With an 0-2 count on him at the time, he was ruled out.

Things hopefully came to an end in the next inning when the Marlins may have felt they got their "retaliation" in from Stanton being hit by hitting the Brewers' star outfielder:

Bench coach Rob Leary, who took over for Redmond as Marlins manager after he was ejected, was tossed with Anthony DeSclafani. The Marlins finished the game having been forced to use three managers.

In a year where many of baseball's top young players have suffered difficult injuries, hopefully Stanton (who is having an MVP season for the Marlins) is OK.
