Lorenzo Cain has just opted out of the 2020 MLB season, according to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The news comes after the Brewers' home opener was postponed again due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Cardinals.

“Lorenzo Cain has informed us that he will not participate for the remainder of the 2020 season. We fully support Lorenzo’s decision, and will miss his talents on the field and leadership in the clubhouse," said David Stearns, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager of the Brewers.

The future of the Brewers series with the Cardinals is unclear after the positive COVID-19 results. However, the team will definitely look a bit different without Cain in the outfield.

Cain released a statement Saturday afternoon, stating why he made the decision.

After careful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to opt out of the remainder of the 2020 season. With all of the uncertainty and unknowns surrounding our game at this time, I feel that this is the best decision for me, my wife, and our three kids. The Brewers organization was very understanding and supportive of my decision, and I thank them for that. I wish all of my great teammates the best of luck this season and look forward to getting back on the field in 2021. Please stay safe.
