APPLETON — Art students at Horizons Elementary school in Appleton is finding a way to use technology in their art class.
Students grab the paint, robot, and ipad, "we are making art" said 5th grader Reschawn Vaughn. Students are using spheros, "I really like the mixing of the red and white because it makes into a pink," said Vaughn.
Teacher Kristeen Jahner said she wanted to do something different in her classroom. "Students are excited to do art on a regular basis, but do something as fun as working with robots, ipads or chrome books, takes art to a whole new level," said Jahner.
The Appleton Area School District purchased a few of these for students, "you'd never think you could drive a robot in art, you'd think you'd use it in technology class," said Adeline Normann, a 6th grader, who loves this class.
The idea came about, from Brian Bartel, an instructional coach in technology for the Appleton area elementary schools, "they're learning about how colors mix together, the textures, art history, thinking about Jackson Pollock, it allows them to engage into a deeper level."
