Thousands of new unemployment claims have been reported in Wisconsin, according to data from the Department of Workforce Development's website.

According to the data, the daily total of claims for the last nine days has totaled 101,464. The website notes that the daily counts are preliminary counts and not official.

Businesses across the state have shut down to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Several business have cited the coronavirus in recent layoff notices published by the state.

Governor Evers issued a new orderon Tuesday asking the public to stay at home. Businesses that provide food and groceries have been permitted to stay open thus far.
