MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin endorsed presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden on Wednesday, the day after the former vice president won the state’s primary and all of his former rivals had also backed him.
Baldwin’s endorsement came on the same day that Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the last of Biden’s rivals, endorsed him. Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed Biden on Monday and former President Barack Obama endorsed him on Tuesday.
Baldwin, a close ally of Warren, released a video saying she was endorsing Biden because he has “always fought for the bold, progressive change that working families in Wisconsin need” and “he understands that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.”
Baldwin, who has been mentioned as a possible pick for vice president, sidestepped that when asked about it in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Instead of saying whether she would want the job, she stressed the importance of Biden winning Wisconsin after President Donald Trump narrowly carried the state in 2016.
“I want to help Joe Biden achieve his goal,” she said when asked if she would serve as Biden’s running mate if asked. “And his goal is to become president of the United States and part of the key is winning Wisconsin.”
