The hugs are so tight in Florida but locally more than a thousand miles away people are thinking about their loved ones.
The situation still gets personal. Jessica Mangum recently moved here from Florida.
She didn’t know the victims, but has a friend who did.
"It’s weird seeing it on Facebook and having people you know post about it, versus random people,” said Mangum.
A connection's there for Joyce Huth, too.
“My grandson is the teacher, he's a math teacher and he's also the coach and the two that were killed, there was a teacher and a coach, and I’d like to think of them safe at our public schools,” said Huth.
People are holding the victims and families in their hearts.
"They didn't deserve to die and it was just terrible to watch,” said Mark Barrett
At the same time, there's frustration.
“Every time we say the same thing. We're going to have better control and better mental health care,” said Huth.
Many people also say they want to see more action on gun control, others say, guns are not the problem.
