GREEN BAY, Wis — It’s the busiest time of the year for the US Postal Service and right now they have all hands on deck. And that's a good thing, because there's all too many of us who are still hoping to get their holiday gifts delivered before the holiday.
Finding the perfect holiday gift is just half the battle when it's this late in the giving season. The other stressful part of it is hoping everything will make it to its destination on time.
"Everyone I talked to in there is trying to get it all done and get it out the door today so that it makes it on time for Christmas," says Dan Young of Appleton who’s making sure his son who’s out of town gets his gift on time for the holiday.
At post offices across Wisconsin the rush is real, but not everyone is letting that stress them out.
"I would if it was next week, but I think they have plenty of time yet to get it there," says Bob Bloedorn of De Pere who was also visiting the post office on Friday.
"If they're late, they're late. They're custom Christmas cards so they'll show up eventually," adds Michael Garsow of Green Bay who is sending his cards just in time to arrive before the holiday.
For the next week or so post offices will have all hands on deck, trying to bring a sense of comfort to those currently experiencing a storm.
"This definitely is our busiest time of the year. It's what we plan for and it's really what we work hard to make sure that we do it right," adds Danielle Downing a Supervisor at the Green Bay Post Office.
And for those wondering if they can still make the cut and get their gifts to loved ones in time for the holiday, these frequent post office visitors say they are not too concerned about that, at least not yet.
"Absolutely not, never been disappointed before," says Garsow.
"The postal service does a pretty good job making it on time without problems," add Young.
Friday was the deadline for the cheapest delivery, first class mail to be sent. So that's no longer an option for folks looking to send out cards to arrive before Christmas. But you can still send priority mail packages as late as Saturday, and still get them to loved ones by Christmas Eve. And if you miss that deadline you’re going to have to pay a premium, but express mail would be your final option. So yeah, there's still plenty of time to get your holiday gifts delivered on time for the holiday.
