WINNECONNE, Wis. — Two people are dead after a head-on crash in Winnebago County.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday on Highway 116 at Harbor South Street in the Town of Winneconne.

Each vehicle was occupied by a driver and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 116 was closed between County Highway S and County Highway M for nearly 3 hours while the crash was investigated.

The two people killed have been identified as 30-year-old Koley J. O’Brien and 53-year-old Charles P. Mier. The Winnebago Sheriff's Office says both drivers were alone in their vehicles, and both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office says that O’Brien’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided in a head-on fashion with Meyer’s vehicle. Both vehicles were traveling at highway speeds. Investigators based this information on a witness statement and evidence gathered at the scene.

At this time, it does not appear that alcohol was a factor, however toxicology results are pending.
