APPLETON (NBC 26) -- Two Appleton men were formally charged of a serious crime relating to firearms.

Mason Beaudry and Juan Cardenas, both age 23, were indicted Thursday on Federal firearms charges, according to Attorney Matthew Krueger of the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

According to the press release, Cardenas had made a "false and fictitious" statement while buying a handgun from a Fleet Farm in Grand Chute. Beaudry, a convicted felon from previous records, then illegally got the handgun from Cardenas.

If convicted of their charges, both face up to ten years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

A trial date has not been released.
