September is national baby safety month and Walmart is using the opportunity to collect old and outgrown car seats.
Starting Monday, customers can trade in their outgrown car seats for a $30 Walmart gift card.
The store is partnering with the recycling business, Terracycle to help keep car seats out of landfills. The global waste management company works with consumer product companies, retailers, cities and facilities to recycle products and packaging.
The car seat recycling program is the nation's largest car seat recycling event with nearly 4,000 Walmarts participating across the country.
The deal runs through September 30th and is limited to 2 car seats per household.
TerraCycle officials say they will work with subcontractors around the country to take the car seats apart and separate them by their components.
Once disassembled, the company will use each component to be processed further into a usable raw material in order to manufacture new products.
All of the work will be done in the US, and none of the car seat materials will make it into a landfill or be incinerated,
