DOOR COUNTY, Wis (NBC 26) -- The safer at home order has been extended for a month which means that countless businesses in Door County will likely have to wait until after Memorial day, to open up to the public.
Speaking with Mike Felhofer, the owner of the Door County Candle Company, he believes that many Door County businesses including his own, traditionally start seeing a jump in sales around mid-June. He adds that he's optimistic that tourists wanting to stay close to home, but still, get out following the safer at home order will come to Door County this summer.
"In some respects, this could help tourism in Door County this summer. We've seen that in past recession periods in the past. People want to do a little exploring, adventuring and relaxing and they just do it a little closer to home," says Mike Felhofer the owner of the Door County Candle Company.
On Friday NBC26 reached out to Jon Jarosh, at Destination Door County who said that some research does suggest that more people traveling this summer, will stay closer to home.
