SUAMICO (NBC 26) -- The Suamico Fire Department rescued a stranded male from the Bay of Green Bay by Longtail Beach around 7 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Department, the male had driven out on the Bay of Green Bay when his vehicle fell through the ice, leaving him stranded.

The male was able to walk away from his vehicle and the Department used their Rapid Deployment Craft to rescue him. He was treated on scene.

The Suamico Fire Department would like to remind everyone that even though temperatures may drop at night, the fluctuating degrees make ice safety even more important to consider. They recommend carrying a cell phone to call for help.

In addition, the Fire Department says if you find yourself in a similar situation, do not try and rescue yourself. They are specially trained with wet suits and safety boats for these dangerous situations.

The Department staffs 39 paid on-call firefighters and is a member of the Packerland Fire District. The Department provides fire and rescue services from two stations. One in downtown Suamico on 1745 Riverside Drive, and one at the southwest end of town on 2323 Northwoods Road.
